NSV Training of Medical Officers

In order to promote and popularize the NSV in the State, the State level trainers and District level trainers who have been trained in NSV are giving NSV training to the Medical Officers working in the Govt. Medical College Hospitals/Govt. Head Quarters Hospitals from 2012-2013 onwards, so as to increase the number of NSV service Providers in the State which will in turn also promote the performance of NSV. Since inception of this training, 155 Doctors have been trained as NSV Service Providers in the State up to March 2017. The duration of this training is 5 days.

Minilap Training to Medical officers(12 days) and refresher training (3 days)

In Tamil Nadu, 380 Operation theatres are functioning in Primary Health Centers to provide sterilization Services to the rural people. Due to shortage in the number of service providers in the PHC’s and SDH’s, the sterilization services are being performed either by hiring private service providers or by deputing Service Providers from other Govt. Hospitals. Therefore, in order to strengthen the Service Providers in Mini Lap technique in all the Primary Health Centers, the Medical Officers are being given Minilap Training which is being conducted in all the Govt. Head Quarters Hospitals/Govt medical college hospitals from 2012-2013 onwards. So far 728 Medical Officers have been trained in Mini Lap technique up to March 2017 in the State.

Post Partum IUCD Training

To reduce the unmet needs in spacing methods and for promoting maternal and child health, the Post Partum IUCD insertion is being implemented from 2012-2013 onwards, taking advantage of the higher number of Institutional deliveries in the state. In order to improve the performance of PPIUCD, the PPIUCD training is being imparted to Doctors and Staff Nurses in Govt. Medical College Hospitals/District Head Quarters Hospital. So far 1703 Doctors and 986 Staff Nurses and 503 ANM have been trained in PPIUCD insertion technique up to March 2017, in the State. The duration of this training is 5 days.

Laparoscopic Sterilisation Training for doctors,staff nurses and OT assistants(12 days) and refresher training for medical officers(3 days)

The Laparoscopic Training is being organized from 2008-2009 onwards, in seven identified Medical College Hospital/Head Quarters Hospitals namely , Villupuram, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Trichy, Chennai (IOG,Egmore) and Coimbatore districts. So far 324 Doctors, 330 Staff Nurses and 266 OT assistants have been trained in this technique up to March 2017, in the State.

Training of Medical officers in safe abortion (MTP Training):

In order to position the MTP trained doctors and staff nurses in PHCs and Govt. Hospitals, the Medical Officers and staff nurses of the PHCs and Govt. Hospitals in all the districts have been given MTP training in MVA technique ( which is very simple and safer) in phased manner from 2011 – 12 onwards. Up to March 2017, 718 doctors and 622 staff nurses have been trained in MTP by MVA technique.

Training on Injectable Contraceptives for Medical officers and staff nurses of district hospitals for 1 day:

It is a new training introduced by Government of India in the year 2016-17. The Objective of this one day Training on Injectable Contraceptives is to update the Knowledge and improve the skills of the Service Providers in the State. It is proposed to train 85 batches of Doctors (30 Doctors/per batch) and 235 Para Medical staff (30 per batch) in six regional training institutes in the State.

Oral Pills Training:

It is a new training on Centchroman Contraceptive which has been introduced by The Government of India. The objective of this training is to update the knowledge and improve the skill of the Service Providers in the State. It has been planned to train 2250 Doctors in 85 batches(30 Doctors/Per batch) and 7050 Para Medical Staff in 235 batches(30 Staff/per batch) in six regional training institutes in the State.
