Non-communicable diseases (NCD) are now recognized as major cause of morbidity and mortality In order to effectively address this issue, a pilot project was implemented in Kancheepuram district to arrive at the components of a state wide NCD screening programme. The components include:-
- Free State wide Adult risk profiling and screening for diabetes and hypertension.
- Capacity building of MPHWs to tackle NCDs.
- Provision of Sub centre NCD kits.
Development and dissemination of clinical guidelines for screening, prevention, and management of diabetes, hypertension at the primary healthcare level and communication campaign on healthy lifestyle (interpersonal, print and media).
A budget of Rs.576 Lakhs has been proposed for this State wide screening programme.
